by Janine Haig and Jennifer Haig
"Bush verse" is becoming more and more popular - it is good fun and very Australian.   Most books of bush verse seem to be written by men.  Here is a woman's view of the bush and its people.

Janine is an award winning poet and has two books of Bush Poetry: I Hope Yer Sheep Get Flyblown and Always Wear Clean Knickers.
There is a third book "Bush Spirit" by Janine and her daughter Jennifer, featuring the winner of the Bronze Swagman Award 2003 "Not Gone" by Janine.
Below are 2 "pomes" from each book for your enjoyment.  just click on the links.
Getting to Yowah

Janine Haig lives on a sheep property between Eulo and Yowah in Far South West Queensland and uses writing as 'therepy'.  Her husband, Doug, features quite frequently in her verses.  Luckily he has a sense of humor.  Surprisingly the people of Eulo, Janine's nearest town, about 80 kilometres from Yowah, are still talking to her as well.

Still struggling to keep stock alive after three years of drought and no rain in sight, Bush Spirit is a fitting title for this new book by mother and daughter.
For the first time these two Award winning Bush Poets have compiled their poetry.  It is a mixture of humourous and serious work.

Janine has twice won the title - Ladies Australian Bush Poetry Champion and Qantas Waltzing Matilda Bush Poetry Champion in Winton. In 2003 she added the prestigious Bronze Swagman Award for Written Verse to her list of achievements, with the poem "Not Gone"

At 21, Jennifer has worked her way up through the ranks of Bush Poetry competitions. Twice Australian Junior Champion, runner-up in the Qantas Waltzing Matilda Championships.  In 1999 Jennifer won the Ladies Written Section of the Australian Bush Poetry Championships.

Many of the "pomes" are taken from real events with a tiny amount of exaggeration added for interest.  Some of the people mentioned might even be familiar.

Warning:  Don't try to analyse any of the "pomes", it could leave you hopelessly confused.
